DASH is an award-winning employee benefit delivering a Cycle to Work experience that reduces admin, boosts uptake, and delivers impact across employee health and wellbeing initiatives, all at zero cost to your business.

This article explains how DASH operates as a Cycle to Work provider from an employer’s perspective, and covers everything from the setup process to administrative considerations, compliance alignment, and factors that influence employee engagement.

How does DASH’s employee experience differ from voucher-based Cycle to Work schemes?

DASH is very different from other Cycle to Work schemes. The vouchers and certificates used by legacy schemes have been replaced by a modern online Cycle to Work store.

Employees shopping with DASH benefit from a simple and intuitive shopping experience, offering more choice and flexibility. Employees can purchase ANY eligible product on the market, and shop as often and as many times as they want - aligning the Cycle to Work shopping experience with the rest of the modern world.

DASH also offers Cycle to Work savings on all-inclusive ebike subscriptions and access to all UK bike share services, such as Lime and Forest. These additional services cater to an entirely different type of rider and will expand the scheme's success within your organisation.

It is for these reasons that DASH is able to achieve employee uptake within organisations as high as ten times greater than previous schemes.

How does DASH’s employer experience differ from voucher-based Cycle to Work schemes?

The employer experience for a company offering DASH is very different compared to other Cycle to Work schemes:

  • Scheme admin is reduced by upto 80%.
  • There are no sign-up windows to manage.
  • DASH’s intuitive platform makes it easy for employees to use the scheme, reducing the number of questions employers have to face. Plus, the DASH team are always on hand to help.
  • Simplified payroll processing means there is only a single deductions report for you to drag and drop into your payroll system each month.
  • The scheme is fully funded, meaning organisations don’t have to pay for employee orders upfront if they don’t want to.

Why does DASH require less admin than other Cycle to Work providers?

DASH reduces admin by up to 80% compared to other Cycle to Work providers. This is achieved by centralising approvals, payroll reporting, and employee communications within a single platform.

From an employer's perspective, administrative workload is often driven by how many manual steps a Cycle to Work scheme introduces. DASH is designed to reduce this by consolidating core tasks. Typical administrative differences include:

  • Approvals are managed digitally within the DASH platform.
  • Employers receive a single monthly payroll report covering all relevant deductions.
  • Employee communications and scheme guidance are handled by DASH, helping reduce the number of questions faced by HR teams.
  • No voucher tracking, re-issuance, or exception handling.
  • DASH has an excellent support function.

This approach reduces the number of individual touchpoints required from HR or payroll teams while maintaining compliance with the scheme rules. Checkout our FAQs to get into the details.

Will employee engagement increase if we switch our existing scheme provider to DASH?

Yes! Employers switching to DASH from another Cycle to Work scheme almost unanimously see improved uptake compared to their previous scheme. An improvement of three to five times is typical, but some organisations will see as high as a 10x improvement.

Employee engagement with the Cycle to Work scheme is influenced by several factors, including product choice, retailer access, and the clarity of the purchasing process. Voucher-based schemes often present a confusing purchase journey for employees, require many steps and take a long time. Because of this, many providers fall short on delivering on the scheme’s full potential.

DASH’s simple end-to-end process, coupled with bespoke communications and increased choice for employees (through bikeshare & subscription offerings), is what yields a dramatically higher uptake. However, realised engagement levels also depend on workforce demographics, commuting patterns, and how the scheme is communicated internally.

Is DASH an HMRC compliant Cycle to Work scheme?

DASH is fully compliant with HMRC's Cycle to Work scheme rules and is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (NO. 926301).

DASH operates within the existing Cycle to Work framework, as laid out in the Department for Transport's implementation guidance for employers and supplemented by the relevant sections of HMRC's Employment Income Manual. Companies working with DASH receive full support and guidance on best practices for maximising scheme success and maintaining scheme compliance. Crucially, this covers DASH entering into the regulated hire agreements with employees, DASH managing the end-of-hire processes, DASH establishing the eligibility criteria for bikes and equipment, and embedding clear salary sacrifice intentions within the hire agreements entered into by employees.

How do I set up DASH as an employer?

Employers can set up DASH by navigating to the employer page, where they can book a platform demo or simply get started. The setup process can take as little as 15 minutes and typically follows these steps:

  1. The employer is introduced to their account manager.
  2. The company provides basic company and payroll-related information to set up their account.
  3. Supported by their account manager, the company configures their account settings to reflect internal policies and requirements, such as multi-entity billing.
  4. The employer enables employee access to the platform. And that’s it, you’re ready to go live!

As part of onboarding and ongoing use, employers are supported by a dedicated account manager. They provide a consistent point of contact for any setup questions, configuration changes, and general day-to-day support. Your account manager can even provide and help tailor internal comms for your organisation.
