Our view
An in depth review from the experts at DASH
The Analog Motion AMX comes in 2 basic shapes: the upright Dutch-style Step and the dynamic and sporty Classic. Aside from geometry, the bikes are identically. As an e-bike, the AMX is particularly unassuming. Its detachable battery mounts onto the frame and looks much more like a water bottle. The frame is made from aircraft grade aluminium making the bike both extra light and stiff enough for an urban environment and the silent and durable Gates Carbon Belt drive makes a nice change from a conventional grease-laden chain. The 250W rear hub motor provides plenty of output and the Tektro hydraulic brakes provide immense braking power. The battery range is on the lower end, but this is the price paid for such a light e-bike.

Does the AMX have gears?

The AMX is a single speed, belt-driven e-bike designed for urban and city riding. This makes for an exceptionally light, reliable and low maintenance bike that is perfect for your daily commute. The motor contains an integrated gearing system which provides assistance relative to current conditions. The motor will assist you whether you are cruising on the flat or climbing a steep hill, meaning you will not miss having gears.

Why does the AMX use a carbon belt instead of a chain?

Carbon belts have many advantages over conventional chains. They are substantially more durable and can last up to four times as long. They do not require any lubrication and therefore are much less likely to pick up associated dirt and grime, and cleaning is as simple as a wipe down with a damp cloth. They are manufactured with carbon fibres running through the core which makes them much lighter than a steel chain but also exceptionally tough. Finally, carbon belts are much quieter than chains. While chain drives are made up from hundreds of metals pieces, a belt drive is a singular and flexible band.

What are the differences between the AMX Step and Classic?

The AMX Step and AMX Classic have the same features and electronic systems and subsequently perform identically. The only difference between them is the geometry. As the name suggests, the AMX Step has a step-through frame making it easier to mount and Dutch-style handlebars that contribute to a more upright riding position. The AMX Classic has a flat top tube that and flat handlebars that encourage a riding position more akin to that of a road bike.
